About Julianne
Julianne brings more than 23 years of teaching experience—and a lifetime of performing, composing, and recording—to every lesson. A versatile singer, pianist, guitarist, ukulele player, songwriter, and recording artist, Julianne helps students develop both strong musical foundations and the confidence to express themselves authentically.
Her teaching is warm, intuitive, and highly personalized. Whether she is helping a beginning pianist understand the keyboard, guiding a vocalist toward greater range and control, or encouraging a songwriter to discover their own artistic voice, Julianne meets each student where they are and helps them move forward with purpose.

Julianne's Musical Journey
Julianne grew up in Cupertino, California, surrounded by music. Her early training included classical piano and voice, musical theater, choir, accompanying, and solo performance. Music also runs deeply in her family: her grandfather was a tenor with the Metropolitan Opera.
She began teaching remarkably early, establishing a ten-student Suzuki piano studio at just 13 years old. She later studied both music and medicine at Brigham Young University, where she participated in the BYU Singers and helped form the university's first coeducational a cappella group. Her musical path subsequently took her into jazz clubs, recording studios, concert venues, and international performances—including classical piano appearances in Germany.
Over the course of her career, Julianne has written and recorded three albums encompassing jazz, folk, blues, theatrical storytelling, and original songwriting. Her recording projects have included an international jazz collaboration, a collection of folk- and blues-influenced murder ballads performed across the United States, and a live jazz album produced in Bend with drummer Todd Rosenberg.
Her album Desert Rider, released under the artist name Jae, demonstrates her unusually broad musical range. The recording includes the songs "Desert Rider," "River So Deep," "Ship Lies Waiting," "Saguaro," and "Sir Soldier Soldier." The Bend Bulletin described the project as showcasing her range, while the album is currently available through Amazon Music. Julianne continues to perform, record, write, and collaborate both locally and nationally.
Teaching Philosophy
Julianne believes that musical ability is not reserved for a select few. In her words, everyone can sing—and every student can develop a musical voice that feels confident, soulful, and genuinely their own.
Her lessons combine practical technique with creativity and musical exploration. Depending on the student, lessons may include:
- Healthy vocal technique, breathing, tone, range, and control
- Piano or keyboard fundamentals
- Guitar and ukulele accompaniment
- Ear training and harmony
- Song interpretation and performance preparation
- Songwriting and composition
- Improvisation and creative expression
- Building confidence for auditions, open mics, and live performances
- Learning to accompany yourself while singing
Because Julianne is both a vocalist and multi-instrumentalist, she can sing or play alongside her students, giving them the experience of making music collaboratively rather than simply completing exercises.

What Students Appreciate
Julianne's students describe her as patient, encouraging, creative, and easy to connect with. One adult voice student writes:
"Her unique style makes learning easy and enjoyable because she doesn't just tell you how to sing—she teaches by example and sings right along with you."
The student also credits Julianne with helping improve tone, range, vocal control, and harmony skills. Another parent recalls Julianne leading a small ukulele group for young children that inspired their love of music.
